A duo exhibition featuring Norwegian artists Ingjerd Hanevold and Sidsel Hanum will open in Tokyo this week, offering a refined exploration of nature through contemporary craft across two venues in the city.
Titled “Tidewaters,” the exhibition runs from April 18 to April 30 and unfolds simultaneously at HALL IN THE WALL in Shibuya and het Labo atrium in Takadanobaba. The project brings together jewelry and ceramic works that reflect a shared sensitivity to natural forms and materials, from metal to clay.
Hanevold, a prominent jewelry artist and professor affiliated with leading Scandinavian art institutions, is known for transforming organic elements into delicate wearable pieces. Her works are held in major international collections, including museums in Oslo, Paris and Berlin.
Hanum, a ceramic artist based in southern Norway, presents finely crafted pieces inspired by landscapes and natural structures. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in New York, Chicago and London, and is part of several museum collections in Norway.
By staging the exhibition across two Tokyo spaces, “Tidewaters” creates a dialogue between Nordic craftsmanship and Japan’s own deep-rooted appreciation for materiality and nature, offering visitors an immersive and contemplative artistic experience.
